OUR RISING COST OF TRAVEL INSURANCE - TRAVEL WITH THE ...

A rather uneventful morning & afternoon so no point in me going back over them again.? Just kind of turned out be one of those low motivation days.? I am thinking it is the cooler damp weather that has caused a nasty bit of arthritis to flare up in my legs again.? Also happened in the Spring when we arrived back home from the southwest to cool & damp weather.? I?m thinking the only cure for the problem is in returning to the warmer dry air of Arizona. Right now my legs are counting the days???????????

Because of my Kidney Stone problem last winter we knew our Travel Insurance company would seize the opportunity to jack my rate way up this year, which of course they did by about $500. And, here's the kicker......they won't even cover me for Kidney Stones this winter until I have remained in Canada trouble free for? 6 straight months. I think my kidney stone removal was back in June so that means we would not be able to leave here until sometime near the end of December. Not going to happen!! Bottom line?.I will not have Kidney Stone coverage this winter despite the higher cost.? Kelly called several other companies but the results were the same. I could really fly off the handle here about insurance companies but what's the point, nothing changes & there is no reasoning or winning with any kind of an insurance company anyway. I think high travel insurance rates are one of the top reasons many Canadians can no longer afford to travel in the States.? Our travel insurance for 6 months this year will be just under $2000.?

One of the main problems we had last March at our house in Congress was lack of a strong Verizon internet signal. It was there, but very weak. It caused us a lot of aggravation, especially when we were in the midst of negotiations with the house sale. And, to complicate matters even further, we had no phone communication. Had to drive down the road aways to make phone calls. We have to deal with each problem separately because our phone server is totally different than our internet server. Guess we will just have to go door to door in our neighborhood asking folks if they have Verizon, & what kind of antennae are they using to get it. We did buy a Wilson Electronics Sleek Cell Phone Signal Cradle Booster hoping that would help, but it didn't. There is a high rocky ridge about a quarter mile behind our place which could partially be blocking the Verizon tower to the southwest of us. Anyway, just one of the things we will have to deal with when we get there.

Tourists headed for Everest region among 19 killed in fiery Nepal ...

Nineteen people have died in a plane crash in Nepal. They were on their way to climb Mount Everest. The plane crashed into a field shortly after take-off from the capital Kathmandu. It was bound for Lukla, the starting point for a trek through the Himalayan mountains to the base camp of Mount Everest. ITV's Paul Davies reports.

By NBC News wire services

KATMANDU, Nepal -- A plane carrying trekkers to the Everest region crashed and caught fire just after takeoff Friday in Nepal's capital, killing 19 people.

The victims included British, Chinese and Nepali passengers, authorities said.

The pilot of the domestic Sita Air flight reported trouble two minutes after takeoff, and Katmandu airport official Ratish Chandra Suman said the pilot appeared to have been trying to turn back.?

The crash site is only 547 yards from the airport, and the wrecked plane was pointing toward the airport area.

Reuters said it was a twin-engine, propeller-driven Dornier aircraft.

Investigators were trying to determine the cause of the crash and identify the bodies. Suman said he could not confirm if the plane was already on fire before it crashed.

Villagers forced back by flames
Cellphone video shot by locals showed the front section of the plane was on fire when it first hit the ground and it appeared the pilot had attempted to land the plane on open ground beside a river.

The fire quickly spread to the rear, but the tail was still in one piece at the scene near the Manohara River on the southwest edge of Katmandu.

Villagers were unable to approach the plane because of the fire and it took some time for firefighters to reach the area and bring the fire under control.

A plane carrying 19 people crashed shortly after taking off in Katmandu, Nepal, catching fire and killing all on board. NBCNews.com's Dara Brown reports.

Nepal officials: 6 survive, 15 killed as plane hits mountain in Himalayas

Soldiers and police shifted through the crash wreckage looking for bodies and documents to help identify the victims.

Seven passengers were British and five were Chinese; the other four passengers and the three crew members were from Nepal, authorities said.

Large numbers of local people and security forces gathered at the crash site. The charred bodies were taken by vans to the hospital morgue.

Gateway to Everest
The weather in Katmandu and surrounding areas was clear on Friday morning, and it was one of the first flights to take off from Katmandu's Tribhuwan International Airport. Other flights reported no problems, and the airport operated normally.

The plane was heading for Lukla, the gateway to Mount Everest. Thousands of Westerners make treks in the region around the world's highest peak each year. Autumn is considered the best time to trek the foothills of the Himalayan peaks.

Tim Cook on Apple maps: 'Extremely sorry'

Cook says the company is "extremely sorry" for the frustration that its maps application has caused and it's doing everything it can to make it better. (AP) ? Apple CEO Tim Cook says the company is "extremely sorry" for the frustration its Maps application has caused and it's doing everything it can to make it better. In the meantime, he recommended that people use competing map applications to get around.

Cook said in a letter posted online Friday that Apple "fell short" of its commitment to make the best products for its customers.

"Everything we do at Apple is aimed at making our products the best in the world. We know that you expect that from us, and we will keep working non-stop until Maps lives up to the same incredibly high standard," Cook said.

The Cupertino, Calif., company released an update to its iPhone and iPad operating system last week that replaced Google Maps with Apple's own map application. But users complained that the new map software offers fewer details, lacks public transit directions and misplaces landmarks, among other problems. Users have been flocking to social media to complain and make fun of the app's glitches, which included judging landscape features by their names. The hulking Madison Square Garden arena in New York, for instance, shows up as green park space because of the word "Garden."

It's an unusual misstep for Apple, the world's most valuable company. Apple prides itself on releasing best-of-class products, but there have been mishaps ?even under founder and late CEO Steve Jobs, whose dogged perfectionism is legendary. A company apology, analysts believe, would likely have happened under Jobs, too.

"I think they are clearing the air and, more importantly, clarifying why they had to do their own maps," says Tim Bajarin, a Creative Strategies analyst who's followed Apple for more than three decades. He pointed to the infamous "antennagate" issue of 2010. A problem with the iPhone 4's antenna was causing reception issues when people covered a certain spot with a bare hand. Then-CEO Jobs apologized at the time, though denied there was an antenna problem that needed fixing. Apple quickly recovered.

In his letter, Cook said Apple built a new version of its Maps product to give users what they've been asking for. The new app includes turn-by-turn directions, voice integration and a 3-D Flyover feature.

Google's map application for the iPhone did not give turn-by-turn directions or voice-guided navigation, although its version for Android devices does. Google didn't license its turn-by-turn technology to Apple.

Google, says Bajarin, simply "wouldn't give it" because the turn-by-turn feature gave devices running Google's Android software an obvious advantage over Apple. Maps and navigation are among the most-used features of smartphones.

Cook said Apple's Maps will get better as more people use the app and provide feedback. That's true for all digital maps. Google's wasn't perfect when it launched, but got better over the years as users pointed out mistakes and helped the company collect its vast trove of data used to perfect it.

"Ultimately, what (Apple) discovered early on is that Google had access to 100 million iOS users who helped them build the Google Maps database, Bajarin said. "At some point Apple had to put its foot down."

It came time, he added, for Apple to own their Maps customers ? and not Google.

But now, Cook is recommending that users look at other options ?including Google's map service.

"While we're improving Maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map apps from the App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps by going to their websites and creating an icon on your home screen to their web app," Cook wrote.

Could Apple have avoided the Maps debacle? Bajarin thinks so. After all, the company released Siri, its oft-derided virtual assistant, Siri, noting that it was still a work-in-progress and would get better over time. Customers understood.

"Had Apple and Tim Cook and team introduced the maps as a work-in-progress, they wouldn't have the backlash," he says.

Apple released the iPhone 5 last week and on Monday it said it sold more than 5 million of them in three days. Although the number is a record for any phone, it was fewer than analysts expected.

Shares of Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple Inc. slid $8.12 to $673.20 late Friday morning, amid a broader market decline.

Notre Dame Prep reportedly under NCAA investigation

High school powerhouse Notre Dame Prep is being investigated by the NCAA, according to parents of former players.

Parents of former players at Notre Dame Prep -- a high school basketball powerhouse -- have confirmed to Yahoo! Sports the NCAA has contacted them in regards to "topics including academic and eligibility issues, financial irregularities and recruiting practices."

Two former players, Sam Cassell Jr., and Myles Davis, were recently declared academically ineligible for the 2012-13 season. Cassell was recruited by Maryland and Davis by Xavier. Cassell is at a Florida junior college, according to the Yahoo! report and Davis is paying his own way at Xavier.

The investigation could carry with it broad-reaching issues regarding eligibility of several Division I basketball players who played for the Fitchberg, Mass.-based school. Long known as a factory for high-level basketball talent, the school claims alumni in the NBA such as Michael Beasley, Derek Caracter and Ryan Gomes.

Cassell's father, Washington Wizards assistant coach Sam Cassell, has ripped the NCAA over the ineligibility of his son. He suggested former NDP players took the same courses Sam Cassell Jr. did but were allowed to play their freshman years.

If the investigation uncovers evidence of NCAA rules violations, it could rule the school "not cleared," meaning, it wouldn't count any courses taken at the school as part of the minimum eligibility requirements for players.

parquet mauritania: Top Free Spam Blockers - Rupertterrell's blog

Annoying and time consuming, spam is something we all want to be rid of. Unwanted mail often contains malware such as viruses and spyware that infect computers, steal personal data and cause lots of troubles to the PC user. Spam filters and blockers are the solution to the problem and although they may not eliminate unwanted emails 100%, you will still get rid of about 90%. And since we don?t feel comfortable paying for very expensive tools, the average user normally relies on free spam blockers downloaded from the Internet. You can choose integrated, standalone and online tools to assist you with the filtering and blockage of spam.

Integrated free spam blockers enjoy the highest popularity among users. After the installation on the computer this kind of software programs add new settings to the email application so that messages can be marked as spam or not spam. There is a huge number of free spam blockers available for this category, and all you have to do is check the Internet and read reviews in order to make sure that the tool you download for free will not be some form of malware. There are cases with so-called spam blockers that instead of protecting the computer, behave like malware, changing settings and exposing the PC to external invasion.

Another aspect you need to keep in mind when looking for good free spam blockers is the compatibility of the program with your email provider and the computer operating platform. Some softwares work only with Yahoo! and Gmail, while others match Outlook Express and Outlook alone. The stand-alone anti-spam tool could be a solution to the integrated free spam blockers because it allows one to preview the messages on the server without downloading it. Some of the paid or free spam blockers in this category have the disadvantage of being operational only if you open the program before accessing the mail. Test the program before installing it so as to make sure that the filtering and blocking of spam is automatic.

As for online free spam blockers, these are tools available for personal and business use, with the mention that corporations are normally interested in this kind of protection. Anti-spam programs running online delete the unwanted messages in the junk mail without the interference of the PC operator. Online spam blockers or anti-spam server software?s are hard to get for free, as most of them are charged on a monthly basis.

Identification of microbes in healthy lungs sheds light on cystic fibrosis

ScienceDaily (Sep. 27, 2012) ? Healthy people's lungs are home to a diverse community of microbes that differs markedly from the bacteria found in the lungs of cystic fibrosis patients. That's the result of new research from Stanford University and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, which has wide implications for treatment of cystic fibrosis and other lung diseases.

"The lung is not a sterile organ," said David Cornfield, MD, an author of the new study, published Sept. 26 in Science Translational Medicine. Although decades of received scientific wisdom said healthy lungs lacked resident microbes, scientists had begun questioning that notion. "This research confirmed a long-held suspicion that a forest of microbes exists in both healthy and diseased lungs," said Cornfield, a pulmonologist at Packard Children's and a professor of pediatrics in pulmonary medicine at the School of Medicine. "More surprising, our data presents a suggestion that the lung flora provides microbial homeostasis that might function to preserve health."

Healthy lungs' microbes have been overlooked in part because past research has focused heavily on lung diseases, Cornfield said. Another flaw in prior studies was a bias toward looking for micro-organisms that could be grown in labs. Many of the types of microbes that the Stanford researchers found in healthy lungs have never been cultured in a laboratory.

In contrast, a large body of research had previously shown chronic microbial colonization in the lungs of people with cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease characterized by serious, progressive lung problems and death from respiratory failure. For instance, CF patients are vulnerable to chronic infection with the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which can cause pneumonia.

The new study used sputum samples from 16 CF patients and nine healthy control patients. The scientists also analyzed lung tissue samples from seven patients' explanted lungs, the organs removed when the patients received lung transplants. (Three lung-transplant recipients had CF; four had other lung diseases.) The researchers extracted DNA from the sputum and tissue, and selectively copied genes coding for the 16S ribosomal gene sequences, which are found only in bacteria. The resulting genetic material was measured to determine which phyla, or families, of bacteria it came from and the relative contributions of each bacterial phylum to the total bacterial population in the lungs.

Several differences emerged between CF patients and healthy people's communities of lung bacteria. In general, healthy individuals had more diversity among their lung bacteria. Different bacterial phyla predominated in the two groups: members of the Bacteroidetes and Fusobacteria phyla were much more prominent in healthy individuals, whereas CF patients had a larger percentage of Actinobacteria. Also, healthy people had a larger proportion of bacteria that had never been grown in a lab.

"I think the tendency toward decreased diversity can be metaphorically viewed as the same phenomenon that might happen in a rainforest," Cornfield said. "When the ecosystem of a rainforest is disturbed and one organism predominates, it undermines a carefully constructed balance and causes disturbances in overall ecosystem. I think it's reasonable to assume something similar could happen in the lung microbiome, where pathogenic bacteria may out-compete organisms that may play a salutary, health-affirming role."

The results open many questions for future research. No one has ever tested the idea that certain microbes benefit lung health, for instance. "We may need to consider strategies that allow favorable microbes to exist while eradicating disease-causing species," Cornfield said. "That paradigm, if it's true, would really turn the care of patients with pneumonia and other lower-airway diseases on its head." Future research might test whether CF or pneumonia patients could benefit from doses of probiotic bacteria to their lungs, he said.

In addition, no one is sure how the antibiotics often given to CF patients change the microbes in their lungs.

"The marked differences in composition and diversity of microbial communities from adults with cystic fibrosis and normal controls are intriguing," said Thomas Ferkol, MD, director of allergy, immunology and pulmonary medicine at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. "The question that remains to be answered is whether these differences are directly related to the underlying lung disease or simply a consequence of frequent antibiotic use, which has been shown to change microbiota of the upper airways." Ferkol was not involved in the research.

More questions arise from the fact that bacterial profiles varied within the group of CF patients. CF patients differ widely in their disease progression, even when they have the same disease-causing gene mutations. It is possible that patients' lung function may be linked to the bacteria present in their lungs. The research team now plans to study whether individual patients' bacterial profiles can be used to predict their clinical condition.

Cornfield collaborated with first author Paul Blainey, PhD, previously a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford and now a faculty member at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Carlos Milla, MD, an associate professor of pediatrics in pulmonary medicine at Stanford and a pulmonologist at Packard Children's; and senior author Stephen Quake, PhD, professor of bioengineering and of applied physics at Stanford and an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

From words to deeds: Why election matters

When you vote for Democrat Barack Obama or Republican Mitt Romney in November, you'll be voting for more than a president. You'll be casting a ballot for and against a checklist of policies that touch your life and shape the country you live in.

It can be hard to see, through the fog of negative ads, sound bite zingers and assorted other campaign nasties, that the election is a contest of actual ideas. But it is always so. A candidate's words connect to deeds in office.

Roll back to 2008. Obama was the presidential candidate who promised to get the country on a path to health insurance for all. He delivered. If you haven't noticed one way or another, you soon will.

And back to 2000. George W. Bush ran on a platform of big tax cuts. That's precisely what the country got. A decade later, taxes are lower than they otherwise would have been.

That's not to say you can count on Romney's checklist or Obama's to come into full being. You sure can't.

By nature and necessity, the presidency is in large part a creature of compromise and improvisation. The unforeseen happens (the terrorist attacks), or circumstances change (the December 2007-June 2009 recession), or things that the candidate sets out to do run into a buzz saw in Congress (way too many examples to mention). That's why promises are broken, priorities shift and intentions get swept away by the fistful.

Even so, you get what you vote for, probably about as often as not. And a lot of what you get, you will feel in a personal way, for better or worse, no matter how distant Washington seems from your world.

The wars called away people in your orbit, if not in your family. The spending that each candidate wants to do ? Romney vows military expansion, Obama would put more into education, for starters ? is bound to benefit many livelihoods in some fashion, at the risk of even deeper national debt. And read their fine print: Medicare won't be the same in the years ahead. Perhaps not Social Security, either. (There's that national debt, after all.)

Across the spectrum of issues, Obama and Romney have drawn contrasts and telegraphed divergent ways for the nation to go.

You can't believe everything you hear. But you can believe enough to know that Tuesday, Nov. 6, is a true day of decision.

In this series, Associated Press writers who cover subjects at stake in the election look at the positions of the candidates, the underlying issues ? and why it matters.

EDITOR'S NOTE _ An introduction to The Associated Press' "Why It Matters" series, which explores top issues confronting the nation in this presidential campaign season and their impact on Americans.

Brazilian court bans anti-Islam film from YouTube

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) ? A judge in Brazil has ordered YouTube to remove clips of the movie that has touched off deadly protests across the Muslim world, the court said in a statement.

Judge Gilson Delgado Miranda gave the video-sharing site ten days to remove videos of the film, "Innocence of Muslims." After that, YouTube's parent company, Google, will face fines of $5,000 a day for every day the clips remain accessible in Brazil, according to the statement posted on the court's website late Tuesday .

The lawsuit was filed by a group representing Brazil's Muslim community, the National Union of Islamic Entities, which claims the film violates Brazil's constitutional guarantee of religious freedom for all faiths.

In a statement on the group's website, Mohamad al Bukai, the head of religious matters for the Sao Paulo-based organization, hailed the ruling as a victory.

"Freedom of expression must not be confused with giving disproportionate and irresponsible offense, which can provoke serious consequences for society," al Bukai said.

The statement also includes excerpts from the ruling, in which the judge stresses "this type of jurisprudence cannot be confused with censorship," which he defines as "the undue restriction of the civic consciousness."

Courts or officials in other countries also have sought to restrict access to clips of "Innocence of Muslims," renewing the debate over freedom of expression in the Middle East, the United States and Europe.

The film's portrayal of the Prophet Muhammad as a fraud, a womanizer and a child molester, has enraged many Muslims. At least 51 people, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya, have been killed in violence linked to protests over the film.

The Sao Paulo court's ruling came on the same day that Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff addressed the United Nations and urged an end to prejudice against Muslims.

The ruling follows a rash of other Brazilian court rulings against Google stemming from Brazil's strict electoral laws, which restrict what critics can say on television and radio about candidates for office. Ahead of municipal elections next month, Google has been repeatedly requested to remove videos that violate those restrictions, and on Tuesday, a judge in Mato Grosso do Sul state ordered the arrest of the head of Google's operations in Brazil for failure to remove YouTube videos that attacked a mayoral candidate.

Google said in an emailed statement on Tuesday that it was appealing the decisions regarding electoral laws and content removal. The company did not respond to requests for comment Wednesday about the "Innocence of Muslims" case.

Earlier this month a judge in Parana state in southern Brazil ordered that Google pay $500,000 for each day that it balked in fulfilling an order to remove videos from YouTube that attacked a candidate. In the northeastern state of Paraiba, a judge also ordered the imprisonment of another Google executive in Brazil earlier this month, also for not removing videos from YouTube attacking a mayoral candidate. That order was overruled by a higher court.

Foursquare brings back Nearby Friends feature

Android Central

The Foursquare app for Android has been updated to bring back an old feature called Nearby Friends. As you might expect, it showcases which of your friends have checked in nearby recently, and what they think about the locations you've been checking into. All you have to do is scroll all the way to the top of your news stream, and use that tab selection bar that pops up at the bottom.

Though it's only really the one feature (in addition to the usual performance tweaks), it's a pretty significant one, and those that are active on the network will be happy to see Nearby Friends again.

How often do you check in to locations using Foursquare? Do you have a lot of friends on there from out of town? Has Facebook proven to be more far-reaching, or do you see all location check-ins as excessive and useless information to share?

How Survival Doomsday Preppers Stock Up for Emergency ? Make ...

You can have heard that will December 12, Next year may be the end in the world. Whether this is or otherwise not, there are many people that they call themselves emergency doomsday preppers. This doesn?t imply they are going to appear to be army men wearing camouflage clothing uniforms and waiting for the end of the world in advance. Preppers are ordinary folks; he may become your next door neighbor or maybe your doctor. Any individual could be a prepper and most ones should not be known that they?re preppers even though some get their very own group preparing by themselves for your ?End from the World?.

To put it briefly, survival doomsday preppers are individuals who store food, equipment and other requirements in case disaster comes about. Disasters happens to be an earthquake, tornado, hurricane, massive economic downfall, petrol leak or perhaps a flames. It can be something that would certainly require a person or a family to leave. Preppers are people who consider everything seriously as well as would like to maintain stocks of precisely what can keep them alive for a few days, weeks, months or for per year. These people maintain stocks of food, normal water, blankets, flashlights, weapons along with a generator that can let them have heat and light in case of the crisis days.

MD Anderson Shoots for the Moon on Cancer

In a dramatic announcement meant to raise the bar on cancer research and treatment, officials at MD Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston say they'll launch an ambitious program early next year aimed at improving the survival rates of eight types of cancer and creating a new paradigm for speeding up all cancer research.

The medical center, long known for its excellence in cancer treatment, is calling the program "Moon Shots" to reflect the can-do spirit and dedication that enabled NASA's man-on-the-moon project in the 1960s.

"The Moon Shots program is not about the next experiment," Dr. Ronald DePinho, president of MD Anderson, said in a video on the center's Web site. "It's not about chipping away at the death rates year by year. It's about focusing our energies on every aspect of the cancer journey, from prevention to early diagnosis to treatment and survivorship."

MORE: Virus 'Kills' Cancer Cells

One in every two men and one in every three women will experience a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, he noted.

A similarly devoted effort to eradicate cancer -- President Richard Nixon's 1971 War on Cancer -- had disappointing results. Since then, researchers have discovered cancer is a far more complex disease that requires a diverse arsenal of treatments individualized to each cancer and, to some extent, to each patient.

Now, however, advances in genetics and biotechnology have made the personalized model of cancer prevention and treatment a real possibility.

The infusion of funds, institutional support and a shared research infrastructure will help the Anderson teams develop new tests and treatments in record time, according to the center's leaders. In the past, most research teams operated independently, with their own organization and funding mechanisms. But that left many programs under-funded and too small to quickly adapt to emerging science.

MORE: Number of Cancer Survivors Likely to Grow Through 2022

A major aim of the Moon Shots program will be to improve the time it takes to move promising treatments from research labs into doctors' hands. Set to begin early next year, the project will initially target eight types of cancer:

Acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome Chronic lymphocytic leukemia Lung cancer Melanoma Prostate cancer Triple-negative breast cancer and ovarian cancer

These eight diseases, assigned to six research teams, were chosen because they're most likely to produce fast, measurable gains in patient care and survivorship. Much is already known about the prevention and treatment of these eight illnesses, and MD Anderson's staff includes top experts on those diseases, DePinho says.

MORE: Use of Weed Linked to Higher Risk of Testicular Cancer

"The reason that (chronic lymphocytic leukemia) ?is a great candidate for these new initiatives is that it's very easy for us to access the malignant cells because they're in the bloodstream" Dr. Michael Keating said. Keating, a professor specializing in leukemia at MD Anderson, added, "That enables us to analyze the genetics of the disease in great detail."

Several immune-system and drug treatments already exist for CLL. Likewise, emerging research has provided clues to understanding how melanoma arises, said Dr. Jeffrey Gershenwald, a professor of surgical oncology at MD Anderson.

"There's been a rapid understanding of the molecular underpinnings of melanoma," he said. "What we'd like to do is increase survival from less than two years for most patients with advanced melanoma to three to five years."

MORE: Cancer Rates Steadily Falling

The program's goals are bold. The team working on breast and ovarian cancer -- up to 175 Anderson faculty members from more than 15 departments -- said it hopes within five years to be able to find reliable methods to diagnose ovarian cancer at an early, curable stage. Because ovarian cancer produces few symptoms in its earliest phases, many women already have advanced disease by the time they're diagnosed. A test to detect ovarian cancer earlier, such as a blood test, has long eluded researchers around the world.

Although eight cancers will be assigned to the Moon Shots program, research into other forms of cancer will not suffer, DePinho said, adding: "What we learn with these first Moon Shots programs will advance our knowledge to all other cancers."

The first 10 years of the Moon Shots program will cost an estimated $3 billion, which will come from institutional earnings and commercialization of new products, research grants and philanthropy.

Do you think that another version of the war on cancer can result in bigger gains this time around?

Yonex Belgian Junior 2012: Matthias Almer punishes Rhys Walker to bag Men?s Singles U19 title

Matthias Almer, a talented shuttler from Austria, prove his mettle and claimed Men?s Singles U19 title after defeating England?s Rhys Walker in the final encounter at the Yonex Belgian Junior 2012 on Sunday, September 23, in Belgium.

The top seeded Matthias, who remained unmatched in the entire tournament, put up phenomenal show in the final battle and easily punished his English opponent Rhys who was the fifth seeded player in the main draw.

Matthias was at his best in the title encounter as he played flawless badminton throughout the contest and easily finished it up in an inspiring fashion in straight games with a crushing margin on score board.

On the contrary, Rhys was shocked with the impressive play of his rival and he could not stretch his winning run on board. He failed to play his normal game and lost the fight to Matthias in just 25 minutes without bagging any set.

In the first game, Matthias put up stunning show of attacking badminton as he took the bird early and remained successful in taking a spectacular lead until the end of opening half.

After the one-minute break, the higher ranked Austrian shuttler continued putting up thrilling show without changing his tactics and maintained his upper hand over his confused rival.

Top seeded Matthias played remarkable badminton while remaining fully focused on court and he did not commit mistakes at any stage which helped him to win the set in a lopsided fashion with a stunning margin of 21-10.

The second game was identical as Rhys again failed to top his Austrian rival from setting up a huge lead at the early stage.

Matthias spared no chance for Rhys to play aggressive badminton and remained successful in grabbing a wonderful lead until the mid-game interval.

In the concluding half, Matthias continued his power play in the similar fashion and remained successful in taking the set with a 21-11 score on the board.

The incredible Matthias emerged as victorious as he ended up the title match in two games in just 25 minutes by an inspiring margin of 21-10 and 21-11.
