'Star Trek's' Quinto ready to spill film's secrets

"Star Trek Into Darkness" is about to sail into theaters, and fans of the franchise couldn't be more excited about the reboot's second entry. Star Zachary Quinto (who plays Mr. Spock) dropped by Tuesday to chat with TODAY's Matt Lauer and Willie Guthrie on the plaza, but he couldn't say much -- not yet.

"By mandate of our fearless leader, (director) J.J. Abrams," Quinto said they've had to be vague about the plot. What he could say was that "this movie is a lot bigger and a lot bolder" than the last, however.

But the real reason Quinto is excited the film is finally coming out? "So I don't have to keep a lid on it any more!" he laughed.

Later on, Quinto sat down with Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford, and the trio quipped about the "bromance" between "Star Trek's" Captain Kirk and Spock. "Always, always," Quinto said to the duo. "I feel like it's like your dynamic."

"So much sexual tension," said Gifford. "It's palpable."

So Quinto asked which of them was "Spock." Gifford volunteered that it was Kotb, and Quinto gave her a high-five. "You and me, baby!" laughed Kotb.

"For all of our days," added Quinto.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" beams into theaters on May 17.
