Showtime goes dark for Central Texas TWC subscribers

Time Warner Cable has pulled the plug on Showtime in Central Texas after the cable provider and CBS could not agree on carriage fees.

After pushing back the deadline several times earlier this week, Time Warner Cable, YNN?s parent company, dropped CBS in New York City, Los Angeles and Dallas?three of the five largest television markets in the nation.

Time Warner Cable says CBS wants 600 percent more in fees than what it pays other stations while CBS says it was getting a smaller share of what Time Warner Cable pays other networks.

"Time Warner Cable has conducted negotiations in a combative and non-productive spirit, indulging in pointless brinksmanship and distorted public positioning,? CBS said in a statement. ?CBS, for its part, is eager to make an agreement in line with the kind it has struck with every other cable, satellite and telco provider."

"Showtime has been working in good faith with Time Warner Cable to work out a contract, and is deeply disappointed with Time Warner Cable's decision to pull Showtime channels," a spokesperson said in a statement.

Time Warner Cable released its own statement saying "CBS has refused to have a productive discussion. It?s become clear that no matter how much time we give them, they?re not willing to come to reasonable terms."
