A Millcreek Township man accused of taking deposits for home-improvement projects but failing to do any work through his now-closed Erie business faces trial on charges in 21 criminal cases.
Erie 4th Ward District Judge Tom Robie said Wednesday that he has bound over to trial all charges filed against Martin Deniziak, 50. Deniziak faces multiple counts of theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, receiving stolen property and home-improvement fraud.
Robie delayed his ruling on the charges at the conclusion of Deniziak's daylong preliminary hearing Monday. Deniziak's lawyer, Philip Friedman, and Erie County Assistant District Attorney Michael Burns each asked for permission to file briefs arguing their cases, and Robie granted them seven days to do so.
The briefs, however, weren't filed before Robie made his ruling.
Erie County District Attorney Jack Daneri said Wednesday that his office was pleased with Robie's decision. Friedman said Wednesday that he was disappointed by the decision.
